Supply Chain Shortages and Inventory Shortfalls

By: Mary Kate Cavanaugh | Posted: October 4, 2021

Have you recently ventured into your local box store only to find minimal inventory? Not too long ago, I moved into a new apartment and was excited to furnish it. Unfortunately, most of the items normally available that someone would typically buy for a new home were not easy to come by. After spending much of the day visiting multiple stores I ended up compromising and not truly finding exactly what I was looking for. Not to mention, the pricing for the products I did find was certainly higher than normal. These inventory shortages are affecting all of us. It’s clear that everyone has felt an impact from the COVID-19 pandemic. Some more than others. Now that societal restrictions have been lifted, all industries globally are being forced to adapt. Issues include inventory shortfalls, increased pricing, order fulfillment delays, and a lack of staffing across the board. Once COVID restrictions were lifted and companies reopened, demand for resources skyrocketed. These demands have been overwhelming for suppliers and manufacturers. Cargo ships and air crafts are also facing their own challenges having limited capacities. Promotional branded items such as stainless steel, aluminum, cotton, and plastic products are experiencing extended production times and increased pricing.
